Althea Braithwaite School Visits I enjoy visiting primary schools and meeting children. I am flexible in what I do, but my aim is to inspire children to want to write and make their own books. With nursery school children I try to get over the message that real people write books, by reading my books and explaining how and why I wrote them. As I work up the age range I talk about how I research and write, planning the book on a single sheet of paper, and emphasising the need to write in rough first. With groups of up to about 35, I can show my artwork too. I also talk about some of my more recent books. For large schools, so that no-one is left out, I am happy to give a more general talk to the whole school, telling them how I became a writer. I can then do three or four sessions with smaller groups throughout the day. For schools in a radius of about 80 miles of Cambridge, I arrive in time to start at 10.30 a.m. I am very willing to visit schools that are further away, but usually prefer to work for more than one day, perhaps visiting several schools. Alternatively I can arrive in time for afternoon school, and then spend the following morning in the school before returning home. Let me know what you would like me to do, and I can let you know how much I would charge. I am also very willing to talk to adults, both about
children's books and writing for them. Althea Braithwaite, or email me. HOME PAGE TALKING IT THROUGH CHOICES DESMOND THE DINOSAUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY LIST OF TITLES
